How Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Reduced Bullying in Schools by 49% with Moodle
The Children’s Hospital of Wisconsin (CHW) provides eLearning programs focused in healthcare education to students across the state in grades K4-8. Educating over 95,000 students, teachers and parents on Moodle, CHW’s free, fun, and interactive eLearning programs exemplify proven success in decreasing bullying, injuries, obesity and drug use. CHW’s eLearning programs have experienced this success because they are trusted, easy to implement and research proven. One particular program that has gained commendable achievements, is their bullying prevention program, Act Now!
CHW’s bullying prevention program on Moodle, Act Now! has seen impressive results with the curriculum reaching over 31,000 students spanning 100 school districts statewide. The eLearning curriculum has also been released to parents, so that changes in knowledge, attitude and behaviour surrounding bullying can be reinforced at home.
This fully encompassed bullying prevention program delivered through Moodle, has provided youth and staff with the necessary knowledge to prevent bullying in their communities, positively increasing the overall climate in schools. Sampling of results revealed that bullying was reduced by more than 49% statewide after students, youth and parents completed Act Now!
Given that Act Now! is a free program provided by a non-profit organization, an easy to use and cost-effective learning management system is vital. Bridget Clementi, the Executive Director of Community Health and Education at CHW, new Moodle was the right choice given the learning management system’s popularity amongst education communities. She also had enough experience with Moodle to know that it was easy to use for the diverse groups of learners they serve.
“We as a non-profit organization need to manage our expenses closely. Moodle allows us to benefit from an LMS with great functionality at price we could not get elsewhere.”
- Bridget Clementi, Executive Director of Community Health and Education at CHW
Functionally, Moodle Custom Reports developed by Lambda, have saved CHW’s staff an ample amount of time. As a non-profit organization CHW must provide stakeholders with reports highlighting the success of their eLearning programs for funding. What would once take weeks for CHW staff to report on, now takes a manner of seconds for Custom Moodle Reports to provide the information they need!
