March 12, 2015—Arlington Virginia. Saylor Academy, a non-profit organization with a mission to open education to all through online, tuition-free courses, is set to release a Moodle Plugin to the community. Developed in-house by Lambda Solutions, an eLearning solutions organization, the ‘User Data Plugin’ will benefit organizations who offer open Moodle courses.
By observing the number of learning resources an anonymous user views, the plugin will enable organizations to request login credentials from said user. Shevy Levy, CEO and founder of Lambda Solutions comments, “We could not be more enthusiastic about the creation of the User Data Plugin” adding that “the plugin will benefit countless organizations who want to connect with learners to better understand their education needs”.
Prior to the development of the plugin, Saylor Academy could not connect with and learn from students who were using their tuition-free courses to achieve their educational goals. Now, by prompting users to register after viewing a set number of learning resources, they can better ensure that the learning that takes place in Saylor Academy courses can produce data that will improve future course design.
“This plugin allows new visitors to Saylor Academy to dive into a course, see what they are in for, and make an informed decision about whether or not they would like to become a member of the Saylor learning community,” says Devon Ritter, Director of Education at Saylor Academy. “Our aim is to continue to provide the level of openness needed to engage students in free online courses, while also maximizing our potential to use learning science to improve the educational experience that open courses can offer.”
The User Data Plugin is set to be released in late spring. If you are eager to learn more about how your organization can benefit from the free open source plugin, get it touch with Lambda Solutions.
