Measuring learning and demonstrating its impact on business outcomes is the biggest challenge for Learning and Development teams today. Half the problem is getting access to all of your learning data. A problem that is typically compounded by the fact your data is housed in multiple disparate systems. The other half of the problem is being able to ask specific questions of your data to address your specific business outcomes.
The good news - there are new new data technologies available to help you get access to and analyze a more complete dataset. You already have access to and use data from your LMS, but not all learning happens in the LMS. This is where the Experience API, also known as xAPI, comes in. To capture the learning activity from other systems, the xAPI data, formatted as experience statements, is collected and stored in a specialized system called a Learning Record Store, or an LRS - but what’s next?
